The Panthers had a huge 35-7 lead in the 2nd quarter before Ryan Fitzpatrick and Co. found a way to get Tampa back into the game in the second half. However, WR Curtis Samuel found the end zone for the second time on the afternoon to preserve the victory for the home team. RB Christian McCaffrey also had a great game, rushing for two touchdowns on over 150 total yards from scrimmage. QB Cam Newton did his part as well, although much of the scoring against the Bucs was done on the ground. Newton has thrown for 1,893 yards and 15 touchdowns in his eight starts so far this season. As a whole, Carolina is currently averaging 27.5 points per game (11th) on 371.6 yards of total offense. They currently own one of the best rushing offenses in the entire NFL, averaging 143.9 yards per game (2nd overall).

Things have looked slightly above average on the other side of the ball, as the Panthers are giving up an average of 22.5 points per game (12th overall) on 344.8 total yards. They have been really good against the run, holding opponents to just 94.1 yards per game (8th overall).

Pittsburgh improved to 5-2-1 last weekend after winning a tough divisional battle with the Baltimore Ravens. The win moved Roethlisberger and Co. back into first place in the AFC North, as idle Cincinnati stayed at 5-3. RB James Conner continues to impress since taking over for LeVeon Bell, running for 706 yards and nine touchdowns in just eight games. Big Ben has also received a ton of help from the dynamic receiving duo of Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster, who have combined for over 100 total receptions, 1,250+ yards, and eleven touchdowns. Overall, Pittsburgh is currently averaging 28.4 points per game on 415.3 yards of total offense.

The Steelers have been pretty average defensively, as they are currently giving up 23.5 points per game (15th overall) on 347.9 yards of total offense. However, Pittsburgh has been quite good against the run, holding opponents to an average of just 90.3 yards per game on the ground (6th overall).

I certainly don’t mind the over on 51.5 in this matchup, as both teams have gone above the game total around 70% of the time so far this season.

McCaffrey and Conner are both underrated backs, and while there is no doubt that Roethlisberger has more receiving weapons to work with, Greg Olsen has shown how much damage he can do when he is 100% healthy.
